The end of the year is fast approaching. With that in mind, you might as well wait until the new year to see your dentist for your second annual checkup and cleaning, right? WRONG. Your insurance benefits do NOT roll over into the new year. Once 2020 arrives, the coverage you’ve been paying for all year in your premiums goes to waste unless you see your dentist who takes Aetna in Fairfax. Here’s how to make the most of your benefits so you don’t lose any money.

Know Your Annual Maximum

Your annual maximum is an important number to know to maximize your benefits. It’s the highest dollar amount that your insurance company will cover your care during one calendar year. The average yearly maximum runs around $1,000. The key here is to come as close as possible to reaching that amount without exceeding it by the end of the year.

Meet Your Deductible

Your deductible is the amount of money your insurance company requires you to pay before they’ll step in and start covering your care. After you pay your deductible, it’s good for the remainder of the year. Just like your annual maximum, though, it resets at the start of the new year, so if you’ve already paid this fee, get any needed treatment taken care of.

Pay Your Premiums

If you’re paying your dental premiums every month, there’s no reason why you shouldn’t be cashing in on your insurance benefits. Even if you don’t need to get dental work done, you should still see your dentist who takes Delta Dental in Fairfax twice a year for checkups. At these appointments, your dentist will examine your mouth for early signs of issues like gum disease, cavities, and oral cancer. Preventive visits like these are typically fully covered by your insurance, so it’s a great way to maximize your benefits.

Get Any Needed Dental Work Squared Away

It’s easy to put off dental work that is much needed, whether it be due to problems like time, cost, or dental anxiety. However, doing this will increase your risk of having to pay for more expensive and time-consuming treatments down the road. That’s why when your dentist says you need additional work done, you should try and get that taken care of as soon as possible to maximize your benefits and save money.

Now that you know how to maximize your benefits, have you scheduled your next appointment with your dentist who takes Cigna in Fairfax? They have plenty of room in their schedule to see you before the end of the year!
