What to Expect at Your Dental Checkup
Dental checkups are essential to keep your smile healthy. During your biannual dental appointments, you can expect to receive the following services:
- Diagnostics – we capture diagnostic x-rays and images to create a clear picture of your entire oral structure
- Evaluations – we carefully examine oral and facial structures screening for warning signs of common oral health concerns, including tooth decay, gum disease, TMJ dysfunction, teeth grinding and clenching (bruxism), and oral cancer
- Cleanings – our skilled hygienist will carefully examine and clean smiles removing plaque and tartar buildup from even the hardest to access parts of the smile
- Consultations – one of our dentists will sit down with you one on one to discuss your current oral health, any necessary dental treatments, and partner with you to create a plan to ensure flawless, healthy smiles
How Often Should I Have a Professional Teeth Cleaning?
While patients do a good job caring for their smiles with daily brushing and flossing, there are still parts of teeth that may not be completely clean. In fact, teeth have numerous tiny pits and grooves that even a single tooth brush bristle can’t access. Bacteria can accumulate in these tiny crevices, producing decay causing plaque that hardens into tartar if not removed regularly. With professional teeth cleanings every six months, your teeth will remain whole, healthy, and free from plaque and tartar.
At What Age Should Kids Visit the Dentist?
In keeping with the recommendations of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, we encourage parents to bring their kids to see us around the age of one or after the eruption of the first tooth. This first office visit will be completely painless and stress free. While you hold your little one on your lap, we will gently examine developing dental structures to ensure there are no areas for concern. We also offer you advice to care for your baby’s smile at home. When your little one is old enough to better understand the office, we’ll take them on a tour. This allows them to get to know what all the sounds and sights are, so they feel safe and comfortable. We want to ensure our young patients develop positive associations with their dental care, and our team will work with kids and parents to help young people learn to care for their smiles at home.
